Child Safe Practices

At KiDZSPOT, we have our own framework for child safety. Underpinned by the 10 Child Safe Standards, we use the KiDZSPOT Child Safe Scheme as a roadmap to ensure our children are protected while they're in our care.  There are many strategies we implement to minimise the risk of harm to these children; these are the highlights that capture the most important ways we keep our children safe:

  • Recruitment: we collect and verify Working with Children Checks and National Police checks

  • Supervision: minimum legislative staff ratio requirements and at least two (2) educators at all times, so a child is never left alone with an educator

  • CCTV: all of our services are equipped with CCTV cameras

  • Photography: only taken on KiDZSPOT issued devices, and with parent permission

  • No smart devices: no personal smart watches, phones or tablets when working with children

  • Physical contact: must be within appropriate physical boundaries

  • Visibility in key areas: staff have clear visibility of nappy rooms and children’s toilet areas

  • Gifts and benefits: no gifts allowed for any child unless we have parent permission

  • Out of hours contact: no out of hours contact allowed with a child, including on any form of social media

  • Confidentiality: assurances that any notification made with regards to child safety will remain confidential and will only be shared with the Approved Providers, senior Directors and law enforcement and/or Department officials, if required

  • Reporting processes: ongoing staff training on how to identify signs of abuse, and the Reportable Conduct Scheme, which outines the process to report any sign of harm, neglect or abuse to authorities

  • Zero tolerance: strict policies on how we handle allegations of abuse, including stand downs and instant dismissal
