Growth through play & exploration

During the toddler stage, a child’s physical growth and motor development will slow down but there will be leaps in intellectual, social, and emotional changes.
Toddlers need a lot of reassurance and support to help them understand the new feelings they start to experience. It is all part of the natural process of their emotional development. To foster this development, we play, we share, we read, we encourage and we empower the toddler to express their emotions so they can develop a heightened sense of emotional awareness.

Toddlers start to become more independent and want to do things on their own and in their own way. They can get frustrated and cry, yell or hit out when they don’t get their way. It is a very normal part of their development as they are simply gauging their independence.
Activities based on parallel play is introduced where children move from playing independently to playing near or alongside other children, for example two toddlers building their own block towers on the same rug, children playing with different toys in the sandbox or colouring on their own papers while sitting side-by-side at a table.
Opportunities for greater autonomy, allowing children to make choices about their activities and develop self-help skills, such as walking independently, washing hands, and eating using utensils.
Expansion of vocabulary and communication through directed conversations and activities, including listening to stories and experimenting with early writing skills.
Dramatic play encourages role-play that help children make sense of their world, for example, playing teacher, shop assistant etc.
